Birmingham Migrant Transit Project

​The Alabama Interfaith Refugee Partnership is organizing a community-wide response to assist migrants who will be released from detention centers in Louisiana and bused to Birmingham when Title 42 ends on December 21.

ALIRP and its community partners plan to receive and assist migrants in arranging travel plans to unite them with their sponsors on Wednesdays and Saturdays in January, beginning January 11.

Book Discussion​

The Institute for Human Rights at UAB and ALIRP is sponsoring a virtual book discussion on January 26, 2023 at 4:00 pm CT.  The book is by Dr. Phi Hong Su and is titled The Border Within: Vietnamese Migrants Transforming Ethnic Nationalism in Berlin.  Dr. Su is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Williams College and will be leading the discussion.
