The Alabama Interfaith Refugee Partnership (ALIRP) hosted an in-person volunteer orientation program at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church (3775 Crosshaven Drive, Vestavia Hills, AL 35223) on Saturday, April 23 from 10-12 noon.
The orientation was also be offered on Zoom for those not able to attend in person, and will be recorded for those unable to participate on April 23. This orientation is for current or prospective volunteers who want to serve on the Direct Support Committee and work on care teams to provide direct support to refugee or asylum-seeking families. This support might include offering transportation, delivering food from food pantries, serving as a language partner, facilitating linkages with community resources, and meeting other needs as they arise.
All Direct Support volunteers are required to participate in the volunteer orientation (either on April 23 or by viewing the online recording), complete a background check, and review the Volunteer Handbook, which is available on the ALIRP website.
