Refugees Among Us

On July 15, 2021, a presentation by Dr. Judith Kopiyo, a physician from Kenya who completed her internship for the Master of Public Health Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As a medical doctor, Dr. Kopiyo worked in the Infectious Disease unit of a hospital in Nairobi. She shared her research on the public health challenges refugees and asylum-seekers face adapting to life in America. Cultural competency is essential for health care and social service providers to reduce barriers immigrants face accessing services.  Click here to view the presentation, called Refugees Among Us: Cultural Competence an Public Health Challenges, on You Tube.
