Dr. Meredith Gartin began volunteering with ALIRP in 2020 and was invited to serve as Board Member and Chair of the ALIRP Advocacy Committee that same year. As the Chair of the Education and Advocacy from 2020-2022, she helped organize several educational programs, book clubs, and advocacy training calls around the Afghan Adjustment Act and improvements to the Asylum-seeking process in the US. In the Fall of 2022, Meredith was elected to serve as Board President. She has a PhD in Global Health from Arizona State University as well as a BA in Anthropology and an MA in Sociology, from the University of Georgia and Auburn University, respectively. Meredith is an Assistant Professor of Global Health in the Department of Health Policy and Organization and School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Much of Meredith's professional work has focused on ways to build capacity for immigrants and refugees in the US and abroad.
