Jane Vines first became involved with ALIRP in Fall 2021 serving as an MPH student intern helping develop partner resource materials for medical care, housing, and transportation in the greater Birmingham area. She became a volunteer and member of the ALIRP Education/ Advocacy Committee in 2022 and was elected to serve as Co-Chair for the Education/ Advocacy Committee (February 2023 to December 2024). She holds a MPH in Population Health and a graduate certificate in Global Health Studies from University of Alabama at Birmingham as well as a MSN and BSN from Duke University and University of Alabama at Birmingham, respectively. Jane is a Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator for the UAB Department of Medicine, Clinical Research Enterprise. Professionally her work is focused on educating new research employees and physicians as well as working on study start-ups, research compliance, and special projects within the unit. She is also back in school at UAB working on a MS in Global Health. Jane was drawn to ALIRP for their advocacy work with those who have been displaced and persecuted. Through education and advocacy her goal is to better educate the public about the importance and value of these partners and to change the current immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeker narrative.
