April Jackson MacLennan ( 2020-2022), Vice-President and Chair of the ALIRP Education Committee. April is an Attorney with the State of Alabama, Court of Civil Appeals. Prior to commencing government service, she worked for 6 years as a regulatory compliance professional and attorney in private practice specializing in tax planning/compliance, immigration, and general corporate law matters for nonprofit organizations, small businesses start-ups, and international families and businesses conducting transactions internationally. April particularly enjoys offering her services at reduced costs or pro bono to refugees, asylum seekers and nonprofits. In addition to serving the Alabama Interfaith Refugee Partnership, April also serves as a Trustee of the City of Vestavia Public Library and a member of the Greater Birmingham Arts Education Collaborative, Board of Directors. She is an avid supporter and advocate of childhood education initiatives, the arts and human rights issues, especially those regarding trafficking and abuse of women and children. Prior to law school, she worked in international development, finance and accounting as a business and tax analyst. She holds a Doctor of Laws (J.D.) from Samford University, Cumberland School of Law, a Bachelors of Arts (B.A.) degree in French Language and Literature from Birmingham-Southern College, and a year of study abroad in Paris, France.
