Ms. April Jackson MacLennan, Esq., is Vice-President of ALIRP and the Co-Chair of the ALIRP Education & Advocacy Committee (2020-2023). A former state government attorney with the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, April is Counsel (Attorney) with the Law Office of Sterling L. DeRamus, LLC, and a business consultant. April’s professional specialization is in federal administrative law, with a focus on labor and employment law, global employment and immigration law and tax-exempt business law and governance. She has offered her legal services at reduced cost and pro bono rates to refugees, asylum-seekers and nonprofits and has worked with migrants from Senegal, Cameroon, Mexico, El Salvador, Venezuela and Haiti. April’s policy work focuses on increasing access to legal, social and educational services, including English language tutoring, to migrant families and educating the community on the intersectional issues of international affairs policy, U.S. immigration policy and the U.S. legal system. Prior to her legal and policy career, April worked in international development and in federal government contracting with diverse teams from across the globe. April is professionally fluent in French.
