ALIRP Furniture Donation and Drive is a newer, direct support program that began in 2024 and helps to engage our partners and volunteers. When refugees and people seeking asylum arrive to the US, they come with almost nothing, but the clothes on their back. Finding housing is often a challenge; however, being able to set up a home is an even greater challenge. In response to these challenges, ALIRP began running a donation drive. Using a truck from Canterbury United Methodist Church, ALIRP has delivered full and queen size beds with frames, mattresses, dressers, and sets of tables and chairs as well as household appliances, such as a washer and dryer. All of which help our Partners set up a home. The donation drives are quarterly and we pick up and deliver on the same day. If you are interested in donating items or helping to deliver, please email us at [email protected].

Education Outreach is another major aspect of our work. This includes providing several book club events, giving presentations, and offering seminars and panel discussions.

Advocacy is critical to our work at ALIRP. ALIRP Advocacy seeks to ensure that people, particularly those who are most vulnerable in society, are able to have their voice heard on issues that are important to them, defend and safeguard their rights, and have their views and wishes genuinely considered when decisions are being made about their lives, leading a change towards a greater social justice and equality. Effective advocacy involves carefully documenting and defining the problem, targeting an ‘audience’ or group that can effect change, proposing a solution, and using evidence and data as a basis for each effort. Volunteers and Case Managers often work with individual Partners to document issues, ensure that they "Know their Rights," and can access the services that they are entitled to access.
