Background text: In 2024, ALIRP began a new program called the Furniture Donation Drive. Outfitting Partner Families with furniture and household goods is a key aspect for our Direct Support Program.  Many families arrive to Alabama with hardly anything except maybe the clothes on their back. Assisting families with lightly used furniture and beds to sleep on addresses a critical need.  However, we found that trying to do this on a one-on-one and as needed basis was just inefficient.  Therefore, we developed the Quarterly ALIRP Furniture Donation Drive.
How the drive works?
ALIRP offers donation times on a quarterly basis in March, June, September, and December. We ask for donors to email us with their photos and measurements of items and we review those for the partner needs.  If selected, we accept furniture donations and deliver them on the same day using a truck from Canterbury United Methodist Church.  ALIRP Volunteers are encouraged to offer donations, share the drive with family and friends, and offer to help with deliveries.
Fast Facts:
In 2024, ALIRP delivered several full and queen size beds with frames, mattresses, dressers, and sets of tables and chairs as well as small appliances; based upon the donation valuations of the Salvation Army and Goodwill, the total estimated value of donations was $3,524 in FY 2024.
After the first Furniture Drive in March 2024, we received so many beds at our request that we were proud to announce in our Newsletter that - every partner had a bed to sleep on for the first time ever in ALIRP history.

One Partner family was a recipient of furniture in the first drive and by the end of the year, after they became more self-sufficient, earning a wage with their work permit, and purchasing furniture of their own choosing, they donated furniture back to ALIRP for the last quarter drive of 2024.
